Freedom is the highest value. You truly understand how much is hidden in the word “freedom” when you lose it. Freedom is the freedom of choice. The freedom to decide for yourself what and when you will do. The freedom to think, to go, to meet or not meet, to communicate or not communicate with someone… Freedom is something that cannot be described. You can only lose it. Freedom is life. Home is the place where the people you care about are. The place where you feel good and comfortable. The foundation is not really physical; it’s in our minds. If the foundation exists, you can build a home in a new place. Everything depends on you. My home is always with me. Living in Belarus today means living with eyes wide open. For me, living and pretending that nothing happened is impossible. Living knowing that my friends and very dear people are behind bars is impossible. It’s half a life. I realized that the prison gates had closed behind me when I crossed the EU border. It’s really terrible. But now I am rebuilding my life. A year after my release, I felt alive. I finally had desires. Very simple desires. I am just learning again to make plans, to want. I have simply started to live normally.
