Henrikh (Henadz) Akalatovich is a Catholic priest from Volozhin, known for his civic stance and service. He was detained on November 16, 2023, and sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges considered politically motivated. During his imprisonment, his health significantly deteriorated: he suffered a heart attack, had part of his stomach removed due to cancer, and requires constant medical care and medication. He spent over a year in the KGB pre-trial detention center under harsh conditions, and later in Detention Center No. 1, where he was denied warm clothing and food parcels. In May 2025, he was added to the registry of “extremists.” His story is an example of the cruel treatment of political prisoners and the persecution of religious figures in Belarus.
Initially SIZO-1, later Penal Colony No. 2 (as of April 2025, returned to SIZO-1)
Suffers from serious health issues (post-heart attack, stomach removed due to cancer). Requires ongoing medication and medical supervision. Held in KGB detention under harsh conditions for over a year; later in SIZO-1
Included in the register of individuals involved in extremist activities (as of May 30, 2025)
